EU Officials Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including the French president accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions targeted individuals that were central to efforts to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives joined France in condemning the move.
The bans were imposed on Tuesday on a former EU commissioner involved in crafting the bloc’s digital governance law, as well as four activists fighting false information, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
